WHY EXPLORE

What's the Power of Curiosity?

Is it worth the effort to foster curiosity and exploration in your life, your group, and your organization?  What difference does it make to foster an Explore Mindset?  Let’s look at a few key outcomes you could expect to see in your organization when you grow a culture of curiosity and exploration.

Feed a world starved of engagement

Worker engagement is defined as “the involvement and enthusiasm of employees in their work and workplace.”  An engaged worker is more productive, helpful, and creates better relationships with co-workers and customers.  In fact, worker engagement is so important that Gallup does a worldwide survey to see how we measure up.  The results were disappointing.  In the United States and Canada, only one out of three employees is engaged at work.  It only gets worse from there.  In Latin America only one out of four employees is engaged at work, and in Western Europe it drops almost to one in ten.

The Explore Mindset is designed to support and boost worker engagement, especially for the increasing number of positions that require complex problem-solving, creative thinking, and consistent, focused effort over time.  Burnout no longer becomes an issue as the Explore Mindset is based on principles and practices that rejuvenate and refresh, rather than sucking you dry of energy.  What could happen if you, your team, and your organization boosted engagement by embracing the Explore Mindset?

Creativity, innovation, and seeing possibilities

Two hundred years ago, how many people could have imagined a modern airplane, let alone an entire airline industry, that allows countless people to shoot through the air at over 500 miles per hour 30,000 feet above the ground?  It would have been unthinkable.  Little by little, the efforts of passionately curious inventors brought the technology into existence, and innovative thinkers made it widely available throughout the world.  Something that was once unimaginable is now commonplace and has changed how we live.

Take a moment and think about what this might mean for you and those you work with. What kinds of ideas and innovations might still remain undiscovered or unused in your organization or industry?  Curiosity and courage to explore are the keys to bringing new, game-changing possibilities to light.  This is one of the most powerful impacts that comes from fostering the Explore Mindset.

Building bridges with others

Research shows that one of the biggest predictors of success for an entrepreneur is their “social capital.”  Put another way, the friends, family, and other connections an entrepreneur has will largely determine how well that entrepreneur’s business will do.  But it’s not just entrepreneurs that depend on relationships and social networks.  The success of a teacher depends much on connecting with students, parents, and other teachers.  Technology specialists must connect with experts in the field to get up-to-date information as the state of the industry evolves.  Fast food workers have to communicate clearly and learn to connect with their team in order to meet the high-stress demands of a lunch rush.  No matter what we are doing, we rely on connections with others.

The Explore Mindset can be used to grow and maintain strong, vibrant relationships with others.  Stale relationships can be brought back to life.  Generalizations and stereotypes that prevent us from opening up and connecting can be swept away as we adopt the qualities of being socially curious.  The Explore Mindset applied to human connections helps overcome fears, hesitations, anxiety, and self-consciousness that keep people and groups isolated from each other.  The Explore Mindset is an unmatched tool for connection.

These are only a few of the positive outcomes you could expect through a culture of curiosity and exploration.  One thing is for sure: an organization that embraces and encourages curiosity and exploration will stand out over others as more resilient, innovative, and connected.  This is why we believe the curious organization is the way of the future.
